A Message from our Incoming Chair

I am honoured to have been chosen as a director and elected Cathaoirleach (Chair) of IBA clg. It has been a privilege to assist Peter McEvoy since last summer as Company Secretary, a position for which Peter is eminently qualified and which he fulfills in a most professional manner.

The past two years have been very challenging for us all as we missed out on our natural urge to interact in person and laugh and argue endlessly about beekeeping methods. We are fortunate to have access to modern communications such as Zoom and video calls to communicate and learn on line but whilst this is effective and efficient it definitely does not substitute entirely for in- person contact.

Many of our members are either personally at risk or are caring or sharing with people who are at serious risk of severe illness or death due to personal circumstances. With yet another surge in infections and deaths in Ireland we must continue to adopt and protect our loved ones as much as ourselves. All things pass.

We can hope for and prepare for better times. Above all else, please continue to be kind to each other. We all owe a debt of gratitude to those who have donated their time and expertise to our affiliated Associations and the Board of Directors of the company. Best wishes and thanks to Derek, Garrett and Jacqueline who have stepped down as Directors having served us so well and selflessly.

Garrett has agreed to continue to serve as Membership Secretary as non director and Derek has kindly offered his expertise and advice as required. Jacqueline is busy saving lives.

As we approach the end of 2021 I wish to thank all our beekeepers and wish all a very Happy Christmas and a Happy and honeyed New Year. Go raibh Nollaig sláintiúil agaibh uilig agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise agus an crúiscín meala lán i gcónaí.
