Today’s briefing confirmed the safe and total removal of the Asian Hornet nest in Cork city.
Monitoring continues on the site to ensure capture of any remaining hornets that might not have been in the nest at the time of removal. We understand that individuals from the removed nest could remain in the environs for up to nine days. The nest itself is safely in cold storage prior to scientific examination in Dublin.
The Asian Hornet nest in Cobh, Co.Cork has been located by NPWS and is being dealt with in a professional and safe manner. It will be neutralised and removed with the process starting today and it is hoped to be completed by THURSDAY, 11th September next. Monitoring will continue throughout by NPWS.
Dublin Sighting : Bait traps continue to be monitored within a 250 metre radius of the sighting. Up to today, there have been no further sightings. Beekeepers throughout the island are asked to remain vigilant.
Any sightings of Asian Hornets by Beekeepers should be reported to DAFM.
